Studying number theory in Montreal

Admissions

Montreal is home to four major universities and overall a great place to study. It consistently ranks among the top 10 places worldwide in the QS rankings (and is a relatively affordable place to live).

The Montreal universities are part of the Institut des sciences mathématiques (ISM) that offers an integrated graduate program in mathematics across the province of Quebec. As a result, the students of our group have access to a wide variety of courses taught at several different institutions.

To study number theory in Montreal, you must be admitted to one of the three universities where our faculty members are located: Concordia University, McGill University or Université de Montréal (UdeM). You may also be interested in the international Master’s program ALGANT. Click on the buttons below for more information on how to apply.

Funding

There are many different sources of funding for our students:

  • University funding: all three partner universities offer scholarships to their incoming students. The conditions can vary a lot according to your university, and your student and immigration status.

  • FRQNT fellowships: these bursaries are available to students from Quebec, or to any  other student who has studied at a Quebec university for at least two terms during the year prior to applying. FRQNT also offers several other merit scholarships for international students. Your university must nominate you in order to be considered for them.

  • NSERC fellowships: several different generous bursaries available to students who are Canadian citizens.

  • ISM scholarships: these are competitive scholarships for the students who are located at a Montreal university or any other partner universities of the Institut des sciences mathématiques (ISM). You must be nominated for them by your math department.
